In 2019, AAHA conducted a Phase III Data Recovery for the Traditions at Beechfield Project in Bowie, Maryland. Mechanical stripping resulted in the identification of 44 cultural features, including an undocumented cemetery containing at least 15 probable human burials. The burials were mapped and delineated upon discovery and detailed background research was conducted to identify the cemetery occupants. Ultimately, AAHA consulted with Prince George’s County and the project proponent to create an easement buffer for perpetual preservation, as well as an above ground cemetery restoration plan.
