In May and June 2020, AAHA conducted a Phase II evaluation around the park administration building at Fort Smallwood Park in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The site surrounds a barracks built for Fort Smallwood, part of Baltimore’s early-twentieth-century harbor defenses. During the evaluation, AAHA found architectural features that may be part of the fort’s demolished coal shed, as well as artifacts that may reflect the property’s mid-to-late-nineteenth-century occupation predating the fort.
