The Pirate’s Wharf Park Development Project aims to improve a park on the banks of the Wicomico River south of Salisbury, Maryland. During the Phase I survey of this 42-acre property, AAHA identified archaeological resources in the park dating from the precontact Late Woodland period to the twentieth century. In partnership with underwater archaeologist Lee Cox, this included the identification and delineation of a wharf extending into the Wicomico River that served as a stop for steamboats traveling between Salisbury and the Chesapeake Bay.
